Health care and green technology fields offer the most opportunities.

1. Computer Information Systems and Technology
Among the most in demand professionals in today's workplace are IT specialists, computer networking managers and software designers. Almost all businesses today are built upon a foundation of computer programs, networks and capabilities, and the experts who navigate these fields are projected to be the most sought after employees in the coming years. There are a number of computer related college degrees such as Computer Networking and Administration, Systems Management, Software Programming, Information Technology and Computer Science that provide the training and the skills to compete in the industry. Computer technicians and specialists are and will continue to be in high demand, earning annual incomes between $60,000 and $80,000.

2. Engineering: Environmental, Electrical, Computer, Civil, Electrical
When it comes to choosing a college major, you really cannot go wrong with a degree in Engineering. Within the broad category of engineering there are several different specialties. Whether you major in Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering, you look forward to a bright future in a number of fields. From city planning to industrial design or technological innovation, degrees in Engineering are in high demand. Engineers earn, on average, approximately $70,000 per year.

3. Business Administration and Marketing
The recent economic decline and the declining housing market have shifted the ground under a number of long-standing industries. Careers in commodity trading, real estate, financial planning and investment are less secure than they have been in the past, causing university students and young professionals to consider other job markets. Still, there remains a high demand for Marketing and Business Administration graduates. With increased pressure and competition in the current marketplace, creative professionals with adaptive perspectives and the skills to respond to the changing economy are in high demand. As corporations restructure and markets shift, there is a growing need for expert researchers who can assess the fluctuations and respond accordingly. There are a number of related career paths for business specialists including Financial Analysis, Project Management and Market Management with salaries between $75,000 and $100,000 annually.

4. Health Care
Among the top college certificates to have in 2009 is a degree in Nursing. Registered nurses are increasingly in demand and expect to stay that way for the next decade. As the large baby boomer generation age, the demand on health care facilities increases. Registered nurses earn on average between $54,000 and $65,000 annually and are offered steady employment and benefits. Related to nursing, degrees in physical therapy are also in high demand. A large aging population continues to drive the demand for home care workers and other medical support staff to care for the past-retirement demographic. Average annual salaries for physical therapists are around $65,000.
